Levi’s – T-story IV 501, Love to Death

The 2010 Limited Edition Levi’s(c) 501 (c) denims are a thoughtful modern take on a historical pair dating a century to a miner named Homer Campbell.

Campbell bought a pair of Levi’s(c) denims in 1917 & padded them with denim patches to protect himself from the hard conditions of the mine. In 1920, they sent the denims back to the Levi Strauss & Co. headquarters in San Francisco, noting that unlike all the other Levi’s(c) denims they had worn for the earlier 30 years, this pair was falling apart. On closer inspection, it became clear that while the patches had worn through, the original denims, while faded & well-used, were still in great shape, The original “Homer Campbell” denims stay a key piece in the Levi Strauss & Co. Archives.

“The Homer Campbell denims are one of the gems of the Levi Strauss & Co. archives. They are special, because they know who their original owner were, which is rare. Not only have they been personalized to within an inch of their life, the denims also represent a testament to the toughness & quality of 501(c) denims, & the part they played in the history of the American West,” said Lynn Downey, Levi Strauss & Co. historian.
